The day started with the Led section and what a wonderful display of lovely horses and ponies, then ridden classes commenced.
Conformation is the key factor in these classes and in the Horse section, Greenmoor Infatuation owned by Victoria Weston certainly ticked all the boxes to win Champion Youngstock and Supreme Led Horse. In the Led Pony ring, it was three-year-old Coroview Master of Arts (Kolbeach Holly's Masterpiece x Eastdale Escapade), led by Ben Thompson that secured Champion Youngstock Pony, Supreme Led Pony and was sashed overall Premier Grand Led Champion Exhibit, with proud owner Janine Palmer watching the proceedings.
First Ridden
The ponies and child riders in the First Ridden section showed us that suitability was the key factor. It was Alan Windle’s Nala Nicholai's Holly and Lillie Wallace’s turn to shine today and what a charming combination they made. This combination won the First Ridden Rider and the North Island Premier First Ridden Pony Championship sashes.
Lead Rein Pony
It was smiles all round for Mia Cadwallader and Eastdale Diva with mum Nannette as they secured the championship for Lead Rein Pony. This class is always hotly contested and this year was no exception, with any of the sashed ponies easily capable of securing the win. Reserve went to Sophie Chipperfield and KS B-Witched.
The Lead Rein Rider Championship class was also won by Mia Cadwallader and Eastdale Diva and rightly so, with this combination showing us just how patient and kind the pony is with a young rider on board.
Paced and Mannered Saddle Hunter 14.2 pony was won by Paris Masterson with KS Rose D'Or in a field of top quality saddle hunter ponies.
The Novice Pony and Horse Challenge
This is where we see new horses come to the fore and begin their exciting showing career. Today Glamorgan Farm Premier Novice Pony Challenge winner Linden Tallisman, ridden by Amanda Barlow, showed us that some serious winter schooling had obviously taken place and went on to claim the title. The Cabernet Foods Premier Novice Horse Challenge winner was the very elegant La Soleil ridden by Fiona Honeyman.
